Welcome to the
first (and very short) email newsletter from John Grain Associates.
To be
perfectly honest, we get a free distribution offer from our e-newsletter
supplier and we wanted to make the most of it before it expired.

New to the Team
At the end of February Letty Woodd joined us as
Office Manager. Letty manages the day-to-day work of our clients
ensuring briefs are met, timetables adhered to, and that our
suppliers deliver on time and to budget. A long career in customer
services means an instinctive empathy for what clients want and need.

Do you do house-to-house or face-to-face fundraising? If so,
what are you doing about those dreaded attrition rates? Michael Dent at
WRVS came up with the idea of sending personalised postcards after each
of the first three payments received from their newly recruited Direct
Debit supporters. They aim to reinforce the value of the donor's
support and the difference they are making. Digital printing adds an
extra personal touch, and a short, but powerful message on the reverse
builds understanding over the three cards.
This is a great example of an organisation really putting
their donors at the heart of their work and with hugely encouraging early
results.

I will be presenting a session with Richard Turner of Action
Aid at this year's IoF Conference in July. It is called "50
Ideas in 60 Minutes", and aside from the obvious challenge of having
just 72 seconds to communicate each idea, I would love to include some
new and fresh ideas.
I would like to hear about any idea or innovation you have
come across recently (like the WRVS one above) - big or small, voluntary
or commercial - that has made you stop and think.
Just e-mail me brief details to
john@johngrainassociates.com I promise to credit everyone I use, of course.

Hot Off the Press!
Blog...
John now has a blog on the UK
fundraising website. To read his latest thoughts on relationship
fundraising, donor charters and more, please visit www.fundraising.co.uk
We recently provided the script for Handicap
International's BBC Radio 4 Appeal, which was aired over the Bank Holiday
weekend. Wonderfully read by Martin Bell, we are very proud of it and
have everything crossed that it performs well for such a fantastic cause.
You can listen to the appeal yourself by visiting www.bbc.co.uk before
Sunday 13 May.
